Rovinj is a small city on the north Adriatic Sea. It is popular tourist resort and an active fishing port. It has a population of around 14 000 and has a Mediterranean weather. It has been part of the Byzantine Empire, and from 1283 to 1797 was one of the most important towns under the Republic of Venice. After the fall of Venice, it became part of the Austrian Empire until WWI. It belonged to Italy from 1918 to 1947, when it was ceded to Yugoslavia. The high tourist season goes from May until early September. The St. Euphemia’s Basilica dominates from the heart of the old town. Many thanks to Adi for this one. See here blog here.
