Montale Tower in Mount Titano, San Marino

The Montale Tower is located in the small country of San Marino, enclaved in Italy. San Marino is one of the world’s oldest republics. In the mid-13th century San Marino had its own legal authority and records confirm its independence as of 1296. Late in the 13th century, the city started to be fortified. There are 3 towers in the peaks of Mt. Titano, guarding the small country. In 2008, the San Marino Historic Centre and Mount Titano were added to the UNESCO World Heritage Site list.
