Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge, Istanbul, Turkey

The Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge, also known as the Second Bosphorus Bridge was completed in 1988. It is named after the 15th century Ottoman Sultan Mehmed the Conqueror, who took Constantinople, today Istanbul in 1453 and ended the Byzantine Empire. It carries the European route E80, Asian Highway 1 and Otoyol 2 highways.

The Golden Horn in Istanbul

The Golden Horn is an inlet of the Bosphorus that divides the city of Istanbul and forms a natural harbor. It is 7.5 km long and 750 meters at its widest. It is crossed by 4 bridges, and a 5th is under construction. Istanbul is the largest city in Turkey, and constitutes the country’s cultural and historical heart. It has a population of 13.5 million. It has been home to Greek, Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman empires.
