Panorama of Riga, Latvia

Riga is the capital and also the largest city of Latvia. It has approx. 700 000 inhabitants. The city is an important industrial, commercial, cultural and financial center of the Baltic Sea region. It lies on the Gulf of Riga, at the mouth of the river Daugava. The city was founded in 1201, the historical center is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, noted for its 19th century wooden architecture.
