Itchan Kala, Khiva, Uzbekistan

 

Itchan Kala is the walled inner town of the city of Khiva. It was declared UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1991. There are several gates to access the walled city. The Ata gate is featured in this card. The old town has houses from the 18th – 19th centuries. The city of Khiva is near the border with Turkemistan and is has a population of around 50 000.
